13.05.2022 |

The Muslim Philanthropy Initiative (MPI) at the Indiana University Lilly School of Philanthropy has put out a call for submissions for its 6th Annual Symposium. The virtual conference will take place from 31 October – 4 November.

Organisers request that papers discuss at least one of the following topics:

  • Muslim Philanthropy (zakat, waqf, charity, giving, volunteerism, NGOs, nonprofits, humanitarianism, etc.)
  • Religion, Pluralism, and Civil Society
  • Islamophobia and Religious Discrimination
  • Law, Religion, and Public Policy

The event will devote one day to each theme, with organisers especially interested in papers that analyse how religious discourses influence Muslim engagement in civil society.

Applicants must submit their papers to the Journal on Muslim Philanthropy & Civil Society (JMPCS), published by Indiana University Press, before 15 August 2022. In addition, they must provide a pre-recorded video presentation by 22 October 2022.

Presenters will receive an honorarium of $250 USD. Successful applicants who submit their final papers to the JMPCS before 1 April 2023 will get an additional honorarium of $500, or $250 if the submission is made before 1 July 2023.
