Intensive Seminars

Within the framework of the Tocqueville Forum, the Maecenata Foundation regularly organises intensive seminars on the topics of civil society and foundations, which are held in German. The day-long seminars are led by Dr Rupert Graf Strachwitz and usually take place in Berlin in a small group with a maximum of 15 people. The aim is to offer an informed insight into in theory of practice of the respective area of activity.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are currently holding our seminars online, in a two-hour session. We have posted two introductory videos onto our YouTube channel for self-study in preparation for the seminars.

Intensive seminar: Civil society (PDF) (in German)
In the intensive seminar on civil society the focus is on, among other things, the theory and history of civil society, statistics, the relationship between civil society, the state and the market, the sector’s functions and objectives, its self-will and impact as well as its added value.

Intensive seminar: Foundations (PDF) (in German)
The intensive seminar on foundations offers an informed insight into the theory and practice of the sector. The topics of discussion include the history, law, empirical theory, politics and governance of foundations, as well as organisational possibilities, functions and objectives, self-will, impact and added value.
