Rupert Graf Strachwitz

Member of the Maecenata Foundation's Board & Senior Strategic Advisor

Rupert Graf Strachwitz, born in 1947, is a member of the Executive Board of the Maecenata Foundation, a research fellow at the Maecenata Institute for Philanthropy and Civil Society, and a lecturer at several universities. After completing his A-levels and military service, which included officer training, he studied Political Science, History and Art History at Colgate University (USA) and the University of Munich, and subsequently obtained his Dr. phil. degree from the University of Münster. Following various professional roles both in Germany and abroad, he founded Maecenata Management GmbH in Munich in 1989 as a specialist consultancy and service provider for the non-profit sector, and served as its managing partner until 2011. From 1997 to 2023, he headed the Maecenata Institute for Philanthropy and Civil Society in Berlin. In 2011, he founded the Maecenata Foundation in Munich and served as its executive board member until 2024. In 2023/2024, he was head of the Foundation’s Tocqueville Forum. Since 6 May 2024, Strachwitz has been a non-executive board member and senior strategic advisor to the Maecenata Foundation. He also works as a freelance academic writer and as a consultant in the field of foundations.
