The Maecenata Foundation is an independent think tank specialising in civil society, civic engagement, philanthropy and foundations. It has the legal form of a non-profit foundation under civil law and is based in Munich. The place of work is Berlin. It was founded in 2010 and pursues the following purposes, among others: the promotion of science, education and research, development cooperation, international donation transfer and civil society engagement. The foundation sees itself as an idealistic service provider for civil society and advocates its transnational strengthening as well as the development of an open society in Europe and beyond.
The Tocqueville Forum sits at the interface between science, practice and politics. The TF researches, publishes and takes positions on the topics of civil society, non-profit organisations, philanthropy and foundations. It translates the Maecenata Institute’s academic research into political communication and intervenes in and initiates public and political debates. With the European Desk, the Tocqueville Forum provides European partners and interested parties with knowledge, background information and debates on civil society in Germany.
