The electronic series comprises short research papers, studies, conference proceedings and other items.
The Opuscula series is an electronic academic series published by the Maecenata Institute. Opusculum means ‘small work’ and corresponds to the English term ‘working paper’. The series has been in existence since 2000. The entire series is registered electronically with the German National Library via an ISSN number (1868-1840), whilst individual publications are registered via a URN (Uniform Resource Name), and are therefore fully citable (‘white literature’). All issues are available to the public free of charge as downloads and are protected by copyright under the Creative Commons (CC BY-NC-ND 3.0 DE) licence.
The series publishes interdisciplinary works of approximately 20–100 pages on the topics of civil society, civic engagement, non-profit organisations, the third sector, philanthropy and the foundation sector. Publications may be in German and English; in exceptional cases, they may also be in other languages.
The series may include lecture transcripts, research findings and interim results, short studies and conference reports, as well as student essays. It is possible to publish several articles in a single issue.
Publication is free of charge. Manuscripts should be pre-formatted by the authors (>> Guidelines for Authors). Stapled print copies may be ordered by the authors or interested parties at cost price.
Submitted manuscripts are reviewed and approved by staff at the Maecenata Institute. In exceptional cases, external expert opinions are sought. Once the manuscript is ready for printing and any queries have been resolved, the *Opusculum* is produced promptly.
