Prof. Mark Sidel appointed as Fellow of the Maecenata Foundation

The Maecenata Foundation is delighted to welcome Professor Mark Sidel as its new Fellow.

Mark Sidel is the Doyle-Bascom Professor of Law and Public Affairs at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Chair of the Board of Directors of the International Centre for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL), and a Non-Resident Senior Associate at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, D.C.

For many years, his academic work has focused on issues relating to philanthropy and civil society. A particular area of focus is the relationship between the state and civil society, as well as the legal and institutional regulation of the civil society sector.

Sidel’s research focuses in particular on developments in China, India, Vietnam and the United States, and combines these regional areas of focus with a comparative international perspective. His expertise provides important insights into the different political, legal and social frameworks governing civil society action worldwide.

The appointment as a Fellow builds on a long-standing and multifaceted collaboration with the Maecenata Foundation. Mark Sidel has already taken part in several of the Foundation’s events and panels, contributing his expertise to professional dialogue. Furthermore, this collaboration has also resulted in a number of joint publications.

His induction into the circle of Fellows will now further strengthen this already established relationship. The Maecenata Foundation thereby gains an internationally recognised scholar and long-standing partner, whose research and perspectives will enrich the Foundation’s work and foster exchange within its international network.

We warmly welcome Mark Sidel to the Maecenata Foundation’s circle of Fellows and look forward to our continued collaboration.
